The general of the dead army

Ismail Kadare debuted in prose with the story "The General of the Dead Army", which was published in May 1962, in the fifth edition of "Nëndori" magazine. The story has a total of 24 pages with a total of nine short chapters (marked with three stars: * * *), of which the last chapter is the longest. The story was accompanied by two illustrations without color. Story "The General of the Dead Army" by Ismail Kadare, has published by OM Publishing House on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its first publication, but already as a critical issue: the story is accompanied by a long study. In the story are clear recounted the contours of the next novel. In that is missing the famous epigraph that opens the novel ("Take, I have brought! It was hard ground and continuously was bad weather"), but the beginning is the same, only that the snow is lacking. The first sentence of the story is: "On foreign soil was raining". The first sentence of the novel is: "On foreign soil mixed rain and snow together." "The General" is written according to the principles of the story and has autonomous status. But after published the novel, it takes sketch status and can be taken as the first version. General gender change, but type (tone) remains the same, parody. From a total text it returns in skeleton of the novel. From the text becomes hypotext upon which subsequent the latest versions.
